Art Beats Festival 2024 Coordinator & Social Media Officer

Art Beats Festival is an international art festival co-organised by Lancaster University and Sunway University, Malaysia. The festival brings together work from global artists, supports young talents, and offers students the chance to learn from industry experts. Alongside exhibitions and screenings, Art Beats also holds filmmaking workshops between Lancaster and Sunway students and masterclasses with industry professionals.

As a festival coordinator intern and social media officer, I, together with my work partner Sky Fong, assisted the festival director Dr Maryam Ghorbankarimi in organisational tasks and managing queries. During the preparation process for the festival, we have put together calls for submission and created promotional materials for social media. Once the Call for Artwork went live, we assisted in sorting and managing the submissions and began developing this year’s exhibition website. The website features all selected artworks, the festival’s information, the programme, as well as the masterclass leaders and the filmmaking workshop films.

When the festival took place, Sky and I ensured the smooth running of all programmes and documented the activities and events, which are featured on the festival’s official Instagram page.

This is an extremely rewarding role, in the mere course of 8 months, I have learnt about the day-to-day developments of the festival and collaborated with industry professionals from different disciplines. it has also stretched my ability across different fields, expanding my skills and knowledge.
